Sonia Kruger (born August 28, 1965) is an Australian television and radio personality, and host of Big Brother. She was born in Toowoomba, Queensland.
Sonia’s first foray into showbiz came in the form of Strictly Ballroom, in which she played “Tina Sparkle”. However, following her acting debut, Sonia made a swift sideways step into the world of television presenting, hosting Children’s variety show Wonder World for Australian network, Nine. This is of course where she would, years later, go on to host the first revival of reality juggernaut, Big Brother.
Sonia also spent time as an entertainment reporter for the Seven Network, featuring on shows including Today Tonight, Sunrise and 11AM.
She went on to host 11 seasons of the Australian edition of reality dancing series, Dancing with the Stars for Seven, starting in 2004.
In 2011, Sonia announced she was leaving Dancing with the Stars and the wider Seven Network to pursue other opportunities with rival network, Nine.
There, she was given her own daily talk show, Mornings, hosting alongside singer/actor David Campbell. It was there where she first took the helm of Nine’s Big Brother revival, serving as host for all 3 seasons which aired on the network.
Following its cancellation in 2014, she was announced as the new co-host for the Australian edition of the hit global singing show, The Voice.
In November 2019, Sonia announced she was leaving the Nine Network to return to Seven, where she will take up judging duties on Australia’s Got Talent. She was also announced as the host of Mega Mini Golf.
In February 2020, Seven announced that Sonia would return as host of the latest Big Brother revival. At the same time, it was also announced she would no longer host Mega Mini Golf due to scheduling conflicts.
